Biden Authorizes Ukraine to Strike Russia with US Long Range Missiles
Washington, President Joe Biden has authorized the transfer of advanced U.S. long range missiles to Ukraine, allowing Kyiv to strike deeper into Russian territory. The decision marks a significant shift in U.S. policy, providing Ukraine with enhanced capabilities to counter Russian advances as the war in Ukraine enters its second year.
The approval grants Ukraine access to the ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile Systems), a powerful weapon with a range of up to 190 miles. The move aims to bolster Ukraine ability to target Russian supply lines, military bases, and other critical infrastructure, potentially disrupting Russian operations on the frontlines.
U.S. officials emphasized that the missiles are intended for defensive purposes and are not meant to provoke an escalation of the conflict. However, the decision has raised concerns in Moscow, which views the move as an escalation of Western involvement in the war.
President Biden authorization comes after months of discussions with military leaders and European allies. It underscores continued U.S. support for Ukraine defense against Russian aggression.
This development marks a new phase in the ongoing conflict, as both sides prepare for potential intensification of hostilities in the coming months.
