Panama Canal Administrator Refutes Trump Claims of Chinese Meddling  

The administrator of the Panama Canal, Ricaurte Vasquez, has strongly denied recent assertions by former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding alleged Chinese interference in the canal operations. Trump had suggested that China exerted undue influence over the critical waterway, raising concerns about its strategic control.  

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Vasquez dismissed the allegations as baseless and emphasized that the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) operates independently under Panama sovereignty. He reaffirmed that no foreign entity, including China, has control or influence over the canal management.  

The controversy arose after Trump accused China of leveraging its economic investments in Panama to gain strategic advantages, particularly in global shipping routes. However, Vasquez clarified that all decisions related to the canal are made by Panamanian authorities in the nation best interests.  

The Panama Canal remains a vital maritime passage for global trade, and any claims of interference could have significant geopolitical implications. Vásquez urged international stakeholders to avoid politicizing the issue. 

Panama has repeatedly asserted its neutrality and commitment to maintaining the canal as a secure and efficient trade route for all nations.
